10-Meter Lope Circles

The 10-meter circles are a lot easier to fit into your choreography than the 15-meter circles (fig. 5.72). You can use the quarterlines and the centerlines for spacing. Ride transitions and movements before and after the circles to make your routine unique.

Requirements: Show a 10-meter lope circle in both directions (on both leads).

Level: Levels 2 and 3.

10-Meter Lope Circle Choreography Tips

• Begin your circle from the centerline or quarterline to demonstrate balance off the rail.

• Ride a lengthened lope immediately before or after the circle to demonstrate balance and submission.

• Ride a simple change before, or after, to demonstrate suppleness and to help you change leads for the circle.

• Enter, or exit, your circle from the counter lope to demonstrate balance.

• Ride your circle at “C,” right in front of the judge so he or she can clearly see balance and bend.

• Circle immediately after your upward lope transition to demonstrate that your horse is on the aids.
